Chinese New Year - Kindergarten Style!

We welcomed the Lunar New Year in with grand style on Monday!  The Kinders did their traditional dragon parade all around the school, weaving in and out of classrooms banging drums and cymbals, scaring out the old and ringing in the new for good luck!  They had a BLAST!  What other time are you allowed to go through the halls making as much noise as possible?! :)

Then we went outside to watch firecrackers!  They were SO loud!!!  Thank you Mr. Dan Wentz, the husband of our Kindergarten Grandma, Carol, for donating them!  And to Mr. Peet for lighting them off for us!

Back inside, we had fun trying to use chopsticks to eat long noodles for a long life, and oranges for a sweet life, while we watched Chinese cartoons and learned how to count to 10 in Chinese... kind of.

We made our own dragon masks to take home and continue the celebration.  I heard reports later that they were used to scare little brothers and sisters... hmmm.

Can you believe your kinder can unscramble and read a sentence like this?  They are really making the leap to reading, and being able to make sense of what they read.  It is so exciting!  They read the Morning Message to ME every day now!

We are busy getting ready for HUNDREDS DAY on Tuesday, February 4th!   I time traveled forward 95 years and took pictures of them, so we could write about what life will be like when we are 100 years old!  *** Don't forget to send 100 pieces of snack for our Hundreds Day snack mix on Tuesday, and a show and tell of 100 things!

I even took a selfie!  I think I look about ready to retire.  Don't you?!

We had fun measuring things in math this week.  We measured with our hands, our feet, our pencils, blocks, and lots of other non-standard measuring tools.  Then we learned about feet and inches, and re-measured the kids on the giraffe on the wall.

They have all grown at least an inch.  They were so excited to see how tall they've grown!!!

We had a super fun QuadPlex movie night on Thursday, complete with concessions and lots of door prizes.  Here was one of the "theaters", showing Lady and the Tramp!  We love it when families come to the school and get involved in activities.  The kids really look forward to these special events, so thank you for those of you who took the time to come!

Next week is Spirit Week!  Your child is welcome to participate in the following Dress Up Days!!!
