Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Last week we celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday, which is on March 2nd.   We had fun dress up days, and special activities all week!  Every morning at 9am we'd go into the library to hear a special guest read the kids a story!

We also had fun making green eggs and ham.  All of the kids but one found that they DID like green eggs and ham! :). We made a graph of our class's likes for math!

We studied rhyming word families in honor of Dr. Seuss and made word family Cat in the Hat hats!

We read a lesser known Dr. Seuss book called Bartholomew and the Ooblek, and had a blast making ooey gooey ooblek with cornstarch and water, and food coloring.

We had, as part of Read Across America, also this week, a SUPER FUN story walk in the library!  We got to walk through the book, "Going on a Bear Hunt" with all kinds of sensory habitats!  Thank you Ms. Nicole!!!

Last but not least, we had Goose come to visit because Kadence had earned a Pet Shop card.  Thanks for sharing your fun cat with us Kadence!!!

Chinese New Year, Battle of the Books and more!

We celebrated Chinese New Year, which this year by learning to calligraphy the Good Luck symbol in Chinese!  We also made lanterns, ate oranges for a sweet life and noodles for a long life, and having a LOUD and CRAZY FUN dragon parade all around the school!  We also did fireworks to bring in the New Year!!!

We celebrated Valentines Day with our Book Buddies!!!

Analyn got to celebrate her birthday with her Book Buddy too!!!

We participated in the Battle of the Books, reading in detail 4 books chosen nationally.  The kids did such a great job memorizing the titles and authors and answering questions about the books!  We had icecream sundaes afterwards to celebrate!!  Thank you for such a fun Battle, Ms. Nicole!

You may have seen Pokey Pins coming home... those are sight words that the kids punch out with pins, and then when they hold them up to the light they can see the word shining through.  They had a lot of fun doing pokey pin words!!!

We began our unit about the Earth by asking questions:

As we go through the unit we will endeavor to answer the kids' questions.  We started with "Does the Earth have a big ball inside?  If so, what is it made of?"  We learned about the layers inside the earth and then did playdoh models of the Earth!
