Mother's Day workshop!

SPOILER ALERT!  Don't read this unless you have already opened your Mother's Day gifts!

You've heard of Santa's Workshop?  Our classroom was transformed into Mother's Day workshop all week, with kids very excited to show their Moms how much they are loved!

For writing we came up with adjectives to describe our mother's.  Here is our list:

Then we learned about similes by coming up with animals or objects to go with each adjective.  The kids wrote and illustrated simile posters for their Moms!  They were authentically their own... some of my favorites were My Mom is... "as warm as a blanket", "as playful as a goat" and "as strong as a train."

We picked cottonwood buds and infused them into essential oils last week, and this week we created Cottonwood Healing Lotion and Salve for our Moms!

We also created a beautiful garden of cute kindergarteners!

On another note... Noah has been curious about bacteria, so he brought in a bacteria science kit!  We had fun thinking of places where we could find lots of bacteria.  We used sterile swabs to collect bacteria and put them in agar plates to grow.  We will check our experiment throughout the week!

We had Ms. Brenda from UAF extension come in to continue our nutrition series. She taught us about eating a rainbow of fruits to stay healthy!

We celebrated a wonderful year of reading and friendship with our Book Buddies at a picnic on the school ball fields!  A few lucky kinders got piggy back rides on the way!  As soon as we arrived, so did the rain!  But we had fun getting sprinkled on, and also hiding from the rain in the concession hut!  Soon it stopped and we played kickball and frisbee and had lots of fun!

Mr. O'Neil was the hero of the day when he showed up with surprise ice cream for everyone!

We LOVE our Book Buddies!

Last but not least my students were such gracious hosts when some of next year's Kinders came over for a field trip on Friday!  They were great center helpers and enjoyed showing their preschool friends around while we did Kindergarten Rocks! stations.

I hope all of you had an awesome Mother's Day.  I know for a fact that all of you are amazing Mothers (and Fathers!) because I see the evidence in your wonderful children.  Thank you for sharing them with me!💕
